Chief minister
- The Chief Minister is the elected head of government of each State and also the real executive head of the State Government.
- His position at the state level is the same as the position of the Prime Minister of the country. Chief Minister is Appointment by the Governor.
- This does not mean that the Governor is free to appoint anyone as a Chief minister.
- chief minister heads a state government’s council of ministers and can be deputed in that role by a deputy chief minister.
- The term of the CM is not fixed and he held the office during the pleasure of the Governor.
- He aids, directs, controls and coordinates the activities of all the Minister.
- The salary ad allowances of the Chief Minister are determined by the State
Governor
- The Governor is the constitutional head of the state and the same Governor can act as Governor of more than one state(Article 153 and 154).
- He has similar powers and functions as the President of India at Union level.
- The President of India appointed the Governor of state and the Governor holds office during the pleasure of the President and also holds office for 5 years.
- Qualification required for Governor is. He is a citizen of completed 35 years of age and he must not hold any other office of profit, nor be a Member of Parliament or State Legislature.
- The salary ad allowances of the Governor are shared by states as determined by the President.
- He appoints the Advocate General of a state, State Election Commissioners, chairman and member of the state Public service commission and vice Chairman of University.
