National Sports Award conferred every year on National Sports Day (29th August) to recognize and reward excellence in Sports. President Ram Nath Kovind presented the National Sports Award 2020 (Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award, and Dhyanchand Award ) on the National Sports Day 2020 (115th birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand ) to sportsperson from the country at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on 29th August.
The list of winners of the National Sports Award as per the recommendation of the Selection Committee was headed by Justice Mukundkam Sharma.
India celebrates its National sports day on 29th August every year to spread awareness on the importance of sports and daily activities in everyone’s life and also to honor the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, who was born on 29th August 1905.
On this day athletes were awarded in National Sports Award (Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award, and Dhyanchand Award) by President of India.
The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is the highest sporting honor in the country.
